Fashion show gives hope to fashion-deprived Srinagar (New Kerala)

Posted: 12 Oct 2009 04:32 AM PDT

Srinagar, Oct. 12 : Amateur models showcased exquisite modern and traditional designer wears at a fashion show in Srinagar.

The participants said such programmes should be organised regularly so that they can understand fashion.

"Nobody in Kashmir has much knowledge on fashion, so if such programmes are held, they would help the people get up to date knowledge on fashion and it would also provide the youth a chance to be in the fashion race. There is no platform in Srinagar so we are providing them this small platform so that they can progress in future," said Nasir Ali Khan, a Kashmiri model.

The show was received with big applause from the spectators who had till date seen fashion shows only on television.

"I feel it would provide a boost to our business and a chance to the youth to showcase their talent. It is an initiative that has been started and more such efforts should be made to organise more such programmes," said Showkat Sahil, a local.

RM10,000 raised from charity dinner and fashion show (The Star)

Posted: 11 Oct 2009 07:52 PM PDT

A CHARITY dinner and fashion show which showcased 125 designs from the Richard Rivalee Couture House in Penang raised RM10,000 from ticket sales.

The money was donated to the Pure Lotus Hospice of Compassion to help fund the organisations services for terminally ill cancer patients.

The recent event at Bayview Hotel George Town marked the first ever solo fundraising project by Richard Rivalee.

The fashion designer said the cancer cause was especially close to his heart as his brother had been diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago.

My brother and his wife have four sons. They have received a lot of well needed aid from various organisations since he was diagnosed with the illness.

So many people have helped my family and I think it is only proper to try and help people in return, Rivalee said.
