DAYTON — As leaves begin turning from green to golden brown, a Miami Valley fall tradition is preparing to turn heads.

BRAVO! 2009, the Opera Guild of Dayton's annual fundraising champagne brunch and fashion show, will take place at Sinclair Community College's Ponitz Center, 444 W. Third St., Dayton, on Oct. 9, said co-chairwoman Helen Jones-Kelley.

It is billed as New York-style fashion, but according to organizers, BRAVO is far from stuffy.

"This is one where everyone can have a good time, and of course we are supporting opera and opera associated programs," Jones-Kelley said.

More than 400 people are expected to attend the event, which includes a social hour and shopping beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $45 to $75 and available through Wednesday, Sept. 30, for the event set to feature commentary by WDTN-TV anchors Marsha Bonhart and Mark Allen, Jones Kelley said.

"We really do try to make it affordable for anyone who wants to attend," she said, adding that the prices are the same as they were last year.

Funds raised by the show will support the Dayton Opera and its educational programs. Organizers hope to raise at least $15,000.

As in the past, the fashion show will be produced by Elan boutique in Kettering.

Julie Shone Baker, the shop's owner, has promised a surprise during the fashion show, which will showcase 12 community models, Jones-Kelley said, adding that the community model — professional models also will appear — adds a unique touch.

"It gives us a chance to showcase volunteers as well as people who are making a difference in the community," she said.

An amethyst and diamond pendant valued at $1,500 donated by Weber Jewelers will be raffled.

"I saw the piece and it just took my breath away," Jones-Kelley said. "Whoever wins it is going to be extremely thrilled."
