STUART — Hearts for Hope, the 11th annual House of Hope fashion show, luncheon and auction, will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Mariner Sands Country Club in Stuart.

This year's benefit will feature a custom-designed diamond and gold gemstone necklace, Heart of Hope, designed and donated by Designs by Terry and valued at $1,850. A $25 donation will buy a key that may open the jewelry box to win the necklace. Only 250 keys will be sold.

The event is one of two main fundraisers for the House of Hope and its many community assistance programs such as the food pantry and clothes closet.

"Many people have heard of our food pantry, but they don't realize we can act as a liaison between the needy and other programs and benefits they may qualify for," said Diane Tomasik, communications manager for House of Hope.

"We are here for people who have hit a bump in the road. We want to provide stability for families that just need to bridge the gap."

By using clothes donated to House of Hope clothing stores, the fashion show is helping change the image of thrift-store style, Tomasik said.

"We get so many great things donated with the tags still on, or only worn once," she said. "Our clothing director scouts all year for fashion-show outfits, and all clothes featured in the show will be for sale."

Auction items focus on pampering. Spa days, restaurant gift cards, entertainment packages and getaways make up the majority of items available for bidding.

Mumbai, Feb 5 : The equestrian world joined hands with high fashion in Mumbai for the McDowell Signature Indian Derby Fashion Show on Thursday.

Models sashayed down the ramp in jewel coloured dresses side by side with jockeys wearing dapper equestrian inspired wear.

The pairing may seem like an odd match as the models towered over the jockeys, but Sonia Vajifdar, who designed the clothes for the evening, gushed over the show.

"I loved it. It was really a challenge first of all, because I'd never seen the races before last week. But it was really fun and everyone was really co-operative. Everything was put together because everyone had patience to come for their fittings even though they were riding," said Vajifdar.

The fashion show is part of the McDowell Signature Indian Derby.

The two-day-long races kick off on Saturday at the Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai and are likely to attract riders from across the world.
