Markurdi, the Benue State capital was transformed to a Mecca of sorts recently, when it hosted eminent personalities from different parts of the country, during the 3rd edition of "celebrate the Benue woman"organized by wife of the Benue State Governor Arc.

Yemisi Dooshima Suswam. The program which featured a fashion show, a crusade for women and an exhibition of arts and crafts, took place at the public square Makurdi the Benue State capital, with wife of the vice president Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, as special guest if honour.. She was supported by Her Excellency, Mrs Abimbola Fashola, Wife of the Governor of Lagos state and Onire Duke.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor of the state and wife Chief Mrs Lawani, the speaker of the state house of Assembly Honourable Dooma Egba other dignitaries from the state and.3 international consultants were brought in from Milan and New York as judges at the event.

The one week fashion extravaganza, organised in conjunction with Legendary Gold witnessed a fashion and model competition show geared towards identifying talented fashion designers and models in the State to project them into globally accepted standards.

Designers from different local governments in the State, transformed the traditional Benue fabric to ultra modem wearable pieces , crafted into detailed dresses , flared skirts and bustiers and modern wedding dresses.

At the end of the Bayelsa Fashion Week, Emmanuel of Da lapel fashion house was declared the best designer. He won a brand new car, represented Benue state in the just concluded Nigeria Fashion Show in Lagos.

The best female model was Anita Ochima. She won a cash prize of N500,000 and got a year modelling contract with Emmanuel New York Models. She also represented Benue state in the just concluded Nigeria Model Awards in Lagos. The best male model was Oteikwu.

He won a cash prize of N500,000 and participated in the just concluded Nigeria Fashion Week in Lagos.

All runners -up received consolation cash prizes. The show was laced with musical performances and comedy by its talented indigenes.

The styling pooch in the pet fashion show in London's famed luxury department store Harrods had many humming the tune "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," err ... reindog?

"Rudolph the red-nose reindog had a very shiny coat!" wrote Jamee Stewart, an eighth-grader at St. Patrick School, McCook, Neb.
