It's arguably one of the year's best hours of television.
True, there are no cliffhangers, and the plot seems to consist of little more than "underwired snow globes," but if you can't find enough to keep you fully entertained during this year's annual "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show," airing at 9 p.m. Tuesday on CBS, you probably don't appreciate sunsets, oxygen or the innocent quacks of newly hatched baby ducklings. Right. And who doesn't love baby ducklings? Now in its 14th year, the holiday-themed tribute to foundation garments and flesh tones returns to its New York roots after road trips to Los Angeles and Miami, Fla. And it does so with some of the hottest supermodels on the planet — Marisa Miller, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, just to name a few — but also with the Black Eyed Peas as musical guest. This year, just to mix things up, Victoria's Secret has opened its runway to the public by holding open casting events across the country to give some lucky girl the chance to be the next Victoria's Secret Runway Angel. "We saw thousands of girls and narrowed it down to 10 — any of which would make a great addition to our runway," Victoria's Secret spokeswoman Monica Mitro says. The 10 have been put up in a luxury condo. You can go online to either CBS.com or VSAllAccess.com and watch videos of the finalists as they go through an Angel Boot Camp, a series of challenges designed to give the contestants the opportunity to show they've got what it takes to be an Angel. That means photogenic qualities, spokesmodel talent, red-carpet charisma and runway radiance. "It's basically an online reality show," Mitro says. And after watching the girls go through their paces, viewers can vote online for their favorite. The winner will walk the runway in the show's final segment. Supermodel Heidi Klum returns as host. "She is going to be the ambassador of the models search," Mitro says. "She'll take us through the tasks, who the girls are, how they made it there, and reveal the winner." Whoever wins gets to walk the runway with some of the most beautiful women in the world in one of the most over-the-top fashion shows ever produced. "It's so extravagant," says Kerr, 26, an Australian supermodel best known for her extraordinary dimples and for dating actor Orlando Bloom. "The Victoria's Secret show is so extravagant and so theatrical with the live music, the angel wings, the glitter, the costumes — it's very different from any other fashion show; it's a beautiful fantasy. It's all about giving people a great experience," she says.Share with a friend
