BURTON, Michigan -- Burton's mayor, police chief and other "celebrities" took to the runway last month to help promote Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan and economical spending.

The local notables were cast as fashion models in the Burton Chamber of Commerce's holiday fashion show entitled "Stepping Out on a Dime." The models strutted in clothes right off Goodwill's own racks off Center Road.

Also serving as fashion models were chamber secretary Cheryl Sclater, Chris Hamilton, representing the Old Newsboys, and members of the Davison Chamber.

About 65 people attended the breakfast meeting in November. Many expressed surprise at the quality and price of the items worn, said Elizabeth Gillies, a chamber director.

"The motivation of this type of event was to make the meeting fun, while informing people of all that Goodwill does for the community," she added.

Several models also went home with the clothes on their backs -- after paying for them.

Tagore themed fashion show in Kolkata (New Kerala)

Posted: 24 Nov 2009 08:54 PM PST

At a Kolkata fashion show, outfits and accessories of the Tagore family were on display.

The fashion show, titled Tagoriana, was held recently to start Tagores 150th birth anniversary celebrations. The show focused on showing "Thakubarir" fashion in a way that it will appeal to the youth.

The idea was the brainchild of media consultant Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee. The show had some famous people walk the ramp in sarees, kurtas, etc. used by the Tagores. The show was choreographed by Kathak dancer Rubina Chatterjee and was held at Aqua, The Park.

Some of the people who participated in the show were TV announcer Chaitali Dasgupta, vocalist Soumyajit Das, actors Arindam Sil and Alokananda Ray, stage actress Dolly Basu, etc. Their outfits for the show were brahmo sarees, achkans, zardosi shoes, broaches, etc. While some of the outfits are directly from the Tagore family wardrobe, some of them have been made based on the designs. Whyte and Mackay sponsored the show.
