Fundraising fashion show opens eyes to local shopping options (The Herald-Mail) Posted: 14 Mar 2010 04:46 PM PDT HANCOCK — A fashion show in Hancock Sunday not only raised money for the Hancock Lioness Club but also helped spread the word about shopping opportunities in town. Models in the show at Hancock United Methodist Church wore outfits from Phillips Fashions at 46 W. Main Street in town and several people at the show said they did not know such clothing could be found in Hancock. Carolyn Garlitz of Frostburg, Md., was thankful that she no longer needs to drive to Hagerstown to find women's fashions. "I though it was fantastic," Garlitz said of the show, which featured 15 models. Nicole Eister of Greencastle, Pa., said she came to the show after hearing about it from her future mother-in-law. "I never heard of this store until now. It's something I would definitely be interested in looking at," Eister said. Show organizers came up with the idea for the event as a way to raise money for the Hancock Lioness Club, said Cindy Phillips, who runs Phillips Fashions and who recently became a member of the club. The Hancock Lioness Club supports the community in many ways, including offering vision tests for children, Phillips said. The models — customers from Phillips' store and students at Hancock Middle/Senior High School — wore formal and casual wear. They walked down a center aisle in a room at the church at 170 West Main St., drawing applause from a crowd of about 100 people. The event raised money through a $5-per-person admission, said Phillips, who added that 18 door prizes, all of which were donated, were given away. "It was real nice," said Nora Hutchins of Frostburg, Md. "Beautiful dresses, beautiful girls." Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry.
