Penetanguishene residents who appreciate pretty clothes and an attractive downtown can combine the two interests at the second annual "Le Dernier Cri" fashion show this weekend.
The goal of the show is to generate funds for downtown beautification initiatives – custom banners, decorative lighting, etc. – that will benefit businesses and the town.
"'Le Dernier Cri' provides us the opportunity to showcase our products while providing a benefit to the entire community," Kim Dubeau-White of Kim's Boutique and Bright Ideas said in a press release.
"Our town has such a beautiful natural setting with a picturesque main street in need of a little TLC right now. This event will assist us in raising funds to enhance the look of our downtown."
The show takes place Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Olympia Centre (2 Robert St.). Tickets are $35 each, and include a complimentary glass of wine, hors d'oeuvres, gift bags and the chance to win door prizes donated by local businesses. Adrien Robitaille will provide the entertainment.
Tickets are available at Kim's Boutique and Bright Ideas, Vincent Salon and Spa, Karma Marketplace, Penetanguishene Town Hall, the Penetanguishene Public Library, the Penetanguishene arena and the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum and Archives.
For more information, contact Wendy Cousineau at 549-7453 or wcousineau@penetanguishene.ca.

Fashion show to help Rape Crisis Centre

A FABULOUS fundraising fashion show is being planned for Claremorris, writes Cróna Esler. In aid of the Mayo Rape Crisis Centre, the event will take place in the Dalton Inn Hotel on Saturday night, November 7.

Therell be autumn and winter styles for all ages on display on the night, with Breege Dugan on hand to style the entire event.

In keeping with the current economic downturn, the fashion show will focus on low-budget outfits for the season ahead. Local boutiques will show off the very best of whats on offer this season and fashion-lovers can plan for those special events from the comfort of their chairs.

Established in 1994 by a small group of women concerned at the lack of support and facilities for women who had experienced sexual violence at some time in their lives, the Mayo Rape Crisis Centre provides a safe, confidential and anonymous space. Open to women (16 years and over) who have experienced sexual abuse, incest, sexual assault, or rape at any time in the past, the centre is a woman-only space.

It is also very pro-active in encouraging childrens rights, facilitating women with children and seeing that all forms of abuse are recognised and responded to. Services provided include crisis counselling; an anonymous phone hotline; counselling on a short or long-term basis, face-to-face, by telephone, or by correspondence; accompanying clients to medical exams and through the legal process from the state-ment through criminal proceedings if the client wishes to; research and advocacy for clients; and one-time counselling sessions for friends, partners, and family of clients.

The centre can be reached on freephone 1800 234 900 or on 094-9025657. As well, you can contact the centre by email at mayorcc@eircom.net or by fax on 094-9027188. While the Mayo Rape Crisis Centre receives HSE funding, it also depends greatly on the generosity of the public to maintain and increase services. This work would not be possible without the help of generous benefactors.

Tickets for the fashion show are 20 each, with student admission 10. Included in the price of the tickets is a pre-show drinks reception and, there will be a host of great spot prizes and raffle prizes up for grabs. Tickets are available from participating boutiques, Clár IRD, members of the committee, the Mayo Rape Crisis Centre (094-9025657) or by contacting Margaret Leahy on 087 958 2004.
